Sizzling Brownie #31: Midnight Brownie !

It’s 2.20 am here in Tokyo and guess what we are doing…digging into a yummiliscious chocolate cake !!! Custom made by us…for our  own handy little pressure cooker !!! And here’s the snapshot for you all !!!

Now why the pressure cooker..well because to start with we both looooove cakes and i love to bake and only i know how much and how many times have i wanted to bake him a special cake on our special days ! Having had my  fair share of  ‘deep breathing’ sessions as the aftereffects of my baking endeavors with the Japanese microwave oven or the grill in our kitchen, i had finally decided with much of a frown and reluctance that i would have to wait until we return back to India before i have this dream come true ! But then where there is a will there is a way 😉

Yesterday at a friend’s house we had this home-made pressure-cooked chocolate cake. And i was yet to ask her the detailed method.Today evening as i typed the words ‘pressure-cooker cake’ to let google help me out yet again..hubby sitting by my side, exclaimed “how can this be !!” and as i looked at him amazed he blurted out “i just thought of it !! and u typed it out right there and then…how can it be !!” And i smiled back as he kept wondering in a daze 😉

After a few quick videos i blurted out “let’s do it”…and he promptly added.. “really ? I’m in !”

It was 1.00 am right then and we darted out to our sweet kitchen to give shape to our chocolate fantasy !!! Hubby was so excited he was literally doing everything occupying the whole counter 😉 And i just kept smiling to myself at his child-like enthusiasm, that’s another thing i so looove about him !!! And there in a while, we had greased the regular rice tin with butter, poured the batter in (after a bit of licking 😉 ), placed it in the pre-heated cooker, set it on and waited the long yet promising wait !

In about 40 mins, the anticipation showing loud and clear in our heartbeats, eyes hooked onto the one spot and tiny sweet prayers on our lips…we finally opened the lid of the cooker and “WOOOOOWWWWWWWW” the happiness shouted out loud !!!

Then the litmus test with the toothpick, a few minutes of cooling down, a topsy turn on the plate and a dash of Hersheys chocolate sauce and we couldn’t wait no more !!! And the first bite….ummmmmmmm heavenly !!!!!! 🙂 🙂

And the name… Midnight Brownie !!! 😉

Recipe : by Hubby 🙂 🙂

All purpose flour : 1 cup

Powdered Sugar : 1 cup

Butter : 1/2 cup (molten)

Cocoa powder : 4 tbsp

Baking soda : 1tsp

Eggs : 2 or 3

Vanilla essence : 1tsp

Beat eggs with sugar. Stir in butter. Sieve the flour, cocoa powder and baking soda together on to this mixture and mix well till dropping consistency (thick enough but falls from the spatula in a while). Finally mix the vanilla essence and any nuts or chocolate chips if desired. Grease a normal rice/dal cooking tin with some butter. Pour in the batter and set by tapping to remove air bubbles. Preheat the pressure cooker. Place another tin/container for support at the base. Put the cake tin on top. Put on the lid of the cooker without the gasket and without the weight/whistle. Let it cook on high for 5 mins then turn the flame to medium and wait and wait and wait 😉 Till 30-35 mins. Put the flame off. And let it remain like that for 5 more mins. And then open !!! Check with a skewer/fork. Let it cool. Run a knife around the edges. Put a plate on top of  it and turn it over and tap to make it slide out onto the plate. Serve the delight your special way and enjoy !!!!!! 🙂 🙂

P.S. This is our first attempt to ‘perfect’ a recipe per se so please feel free to ask in case of any confusion. Also if you find it tempting enough, then have no doubt we would love to know how it came out to be 😉
